Our nation has once again started a war with no plan on how to finish it. President Trump acknowledged the potential for American casualties, yet continues down this dangerous path with little regard for their lives or the civilians of Iran. Already, the death toll is climbing. The government has already lied about incidents involving U.S. troops. And the images of a rumbling black sky over Iran as acid rain falls are horrifying.
And for what? Why did Trump decide to start this war?
He doesn’t know, and neither does his administration. Initially, they claimed that airstrikes on Iran were necessary to halt its nuclear ambitions. However, this justification contradicts their own past statements boasting of eliminating Iran’s nuclear capabilities. Later, they shifted their reasoning to promoting freedom for the Iranian people. Yet, the tragic bombing of an all-girls school, struck twice by U.S. Tomahawk missiles, exposes the devastating human cost of these actions and undermines those claims. And in the past two weeks, they have cycled through these excuses numerous times, among others that make just as little sense.
We are at war for no clear reason and with no real plan for what we are doing in the region. This administration did not even have the forethought to fill up the strategic oil reserves before launching this attack.
The promises of ‘No new wars’ and ‘America First’ ring increasingly hollow under this administration. President Trump has even said this ‘operation’ may last for five weeks. It’s been two weeks, and prices are rising as we’re already in the midst of an affordability crisis. Ridiculous. It’s time for Congress, Democrats and Republicans alike, to grow a spine, assert its constitutional authority, and put an end to these reckless decisions.
