Our community deserves someone willing to stand up and deliver impactful leadership. And yet Rep. Gluesenkamp Perez, along with 6 other Democrats in the House, just voted through a funding bill that will give ICE billions of dollars with minimal guardrails. No reforms on how they should handle themselves. No protections for our communities.
This cannot continue. We have seen ICE agents act as if they are above the law. Stories like those of Keith Porter Jr. and Renee Good are heartbreaking reminders of what’s at stake. People have lost their lives in our streets due to ICE agents, others have died in detention centers from medical neglect, and countless families have been forever changed.
ICE does not need more money. We should be investing in comprehensive immigration reform. Our resources should be devoted to building a fair and humane immigration system. I will always prioritize solutions that strengthen families and communities, not tear them apart.
ICE must be dismantled. No amount of money can reform an agency so fundamentally broken. If elected, I want you to know that I will work every day, in whatever way I can, to prosecute these agents for the crimes they have committed. We can build a better future, one that reflects our values of dignity and respect.
